How to make Beavis and Butthead costumes
Remember the two hilariously irreverent, heavy metal-loving teenagers that graced MTV in the ’90s? With a few simple items, you can turn yourself and a friend into the iconic duo for your next costume event. Here are some variations on their typical “couch potato” look.
The Classic Beavis Look
- Blond Wig: Beavis has a mop of messy blond hair. Find a wig that matches and be sure to style it for maximum dishevelment.
- Metallica T-shirt: The character’s most recognizable piece of clothing is his blue Metallica T-shirt. If you can’t find a shirt with the band’s logo, a plain blue t-shirt will suffice.
- Gray Shorts: Pair the shirt with gray shorts. Remember, Beavis isn’t the fashion-forward type, so the more casual, the better.
- White Socks and Black Shoes: Finish the look with white socks pulled up high and simple black shoes.
- Faux Braces (optional): For an extra touch, consider using some faux braces to mimic Beavis’ dental “style.”
The Classic Butthead Look
- Brown Wig: Butthead sports a brown, pompadour-like hairstyle. Any brown wig that you can style in a similar way will work.
- AC/DC T-shirt: Butthead is usually seen wearing a black AC/DC T-shirt. If you can’t find the band’s logo, any black T-shirt should do.
- Red Shorts: To complete the outfit, add a pair of red shorts.
- White Socks and Black Shoes: Like Beavis, Butthead wears white socks pulled up high with black shoes.
- Large Teeth (optional): If you want to go the extra mile, consider getting a set of large fake teeth to mimic Butthead’s distinctive grin.
Variations
Though Beavis and Butthead typically wear the same clothes, there are a few episodes where they switch it up:
- Work Uniforms: In the “Burger World” episodes, both wear a blue collared shirt with the Burger World logo, black pants, and a Burger World hat. You can replicate this look by finding a similar uniform online or creating your own with a blue shirt and iron-on transfers for the logo.
- Hippie Outfits: In one episode, Beavis and Butthead dress as hippies. This involves peace-sign necklaces, tie-dye shirts, and headbands.
- Halloween Costumes: For an even more meta costume, recreate their Halloween outfits. Beavis dresses as a vampire with a black cape and fake teeth, while Butthead dresses as a werewolf with fake ears and a fur-like vest.
Just remember, the key to a great Beavis and Butthead costume isn’t just the clothes. Master their signature laughs and irreverent attitudes to truly bring the characters to life.
Who are Beavis and Butt-head ?
BEAVIS
One of the main characters in Beavis and Butt-Head is Beavis. He is close to and Butt-Head’s best friend. Mike Judge, the man behind the show, is the one who voice-overs this character. Beavis appears to be much more resilient than the typical adolescent. He has endured numerous brutal beatings, being trapped in the center of a car crash, losing a lot of blood, and being struck by lightning. Beavis has some admirable qualities and character strengths despite his passive behavior. In general, he is friendlier and more upbeat than Butt-Head.
BUTT-HEAD
Just like Beavis, Butthead is also voiced by series creator Mike Judge. He is frequently shown to be abusive toward Beavis, frequently slapping or deriding him. Butt-Head seems to be the leader of the two title characters. He is more collected, experienced, laid-back, and possibly smarter than Beavis. He appears to be much tougher than the typical teenager, much like Beavis. He has overcome numerous fatal illnesses and brutal beatings, including being run over by a school bus.
